Quitting is most often associated to past traumas of rejection, or some other type of hurt. One tends to back off a situation as they recognize the hurt of old and don't want to feel or experience that again, so they quit.
To stop is not permanent, its a pause, a re-evaluation. One either adjust or finds an alternate resolve or route, if there is one, then makes the decision to continue on, or stop.
See, there's a difference; to quit is; I can't do. To stop is; I'm not able to do. Don't quit. Stop only if you have to. #thatsurthurty
